Driving six-and-a-half hours south and west of Butte County to the coastal hamlet of Morro Bay for Mother’s day opened up a whole new cadre of opportunities for bird discoveries.
Just outside of my mom’s home a chestnut-backed chickadee was servicing a nest hole in a wooden lamp post.
